Meet Patrick

Judge Patrick G. King is a resident of Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois where he resides with his wife - Stephanie, their seven (7) children, and Lucky (the family dog). Born and raised in Madison County, Judge King’s father was a high school teacher, guidance counselor, and varsity coach while his mother was a registered nurse working in local hospitals. He graduated from Marquette Catholic High School and University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History. Judge King earned his Juris Doctor and graduated cum laude Thomas M. Cooley Law School along with his wife, Stephanie, also a fellow graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
After practicing at a small law firm, Judge King started his law practice in Madison County representing individuals, families, small businesses, and the local community in the general practice of law. After serving as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Madison County for 5 years, Stephanie joined Judge King in private practice where they proudly practiced law together. From 2018-2025, Judge King served as the managing partner of MillerKing LLC practicing in the areas of general civil litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, municipal law, arbitration, and mediation. While in private practice, he served as a Mediator, Arbitrator, Special Public Defender, Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) on behalf of children and disabled persons, and he represented several local municipalities, including as village/city attorney, zoning board administrator (hearing officer), civil service commission attorney, and attorney for police and fire board commissions. Judge King served as an adjunct instructor at Missouri Baptist University teaching several courses, including Business Law and Criminal Evidence.
In February 2025, Judge King was appointed as a Circuit Judge unanimously by the Illinois Supreme Court. On February 21, 2025, Justice David Overstreet of the Illinois Supreme Court sworn-in Judge King at the Madison County Courthouse with a packed courtroom of family, friends, courthouse staff, lawyers, and judges/justices. As a trial court judge, Judge King presides in the Civil or Law Division of the Third Judicial Circuit Court.
Judge King is a member of the Alton-Wood River Bar Association (Past President), Tri-City Bar Association, Madison County Bar Association (Past President), Catholic Bar Association of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois (Past President), Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Illinois Judges Association.
Judge King and his family are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville, and they are involved with St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville as well as the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. Judge King remains committed and actively involved in the local community, church community, and he served on several not-for-profit boards, including the Catholic Children’s Home in Alton. As a public servant and member of the judiciary, Judge King believes in serving the community for the benefit of individuals, families, local businesses, and not-for-profits.
Judge King remains committed to faithfully serving the public to uphold the Constitution, upholding the integrity of the judiciary, preserving the right to a fair and impartial jury trial, showing empathy and compassion, and ensuring access to the courts for all people.
